Terrazzo in gastronomy: success stories of old houses with a modern design
With a large portion of pioneering spirit, 126 years ago Zurich citizen women laid the foundation for a company that today, as ZFV, is one of the largest and most versatile gastronomy, hotel and bakery groups in Switzerland. The SORELL Hotels are part of this success story. Recently, the new boutique hotel St. Peter was opened in the center of Zurich, where dade design took over part of the furnishing.
Atmospheric furniture from terrazzo
The renowned designers from Andrin Schweizer Company, who were also responsible for the 5-star Chedi hotel in Andermatt, designed atmospheric concrete furniture for the lobby, in keeping with the character of the hotel. The appearance of the washed concrete facade with a slight red tinge from the 1970s was adopted for the design of the reception desk. For the breakfast area and the bistro tables, it was decided to use mirror-smooth surfaces made of terrazzo, as these are suitable for gastronomy due to the high material density.

Dade Design at Zurich Main Station
Swiss concrete design from the dade manufactory in the Rhine Valley meets culinary delicacies from Tokyo at Zurich’s main station. Dade Design manufactured numerous pieces of furniture from velvety-smooth dade ROC concrete for the Japanese restaurant MARU. The corporate architecture concept was created by Mint Architecture.
